The conference under the theme "Making Sense: Alternative Views on the Origins and Causes of AIDS in Africa," is scheduled for August 28 to September 1 at the Uganda Martyrs' University, Nkozi. http://www.fiuc.org/umu/umu.html But the Uganda AIDS Commission was not yet aware of the conference by Thursday. The Director General, Dr. Kihumuro Apuuli, said such activities would only derail anti-AIDS efforts and cause more deaths. "Really, we have a problem. This is a very serious matter. It can be proved in the laboratory that HIV causes AIDS. But these people are saying that AIDS is caused by something else," he said. The organisers of the conference include Prof. Peter Kanyandago, Deputy Vice Chancellor of the UMU and two doctors from the UK, Rosalind Harrison-Chirimuuta and Kevin Corbett. The proponents of the dissenting AIDS views, also query the methods used for testing HIV as well as the usefulness of anti-retroviral drugs. http://www.newvision.co.ug/08_19_st15.htm Ends (Back) --- from list bhaskar-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
