Today is November 29, fifty-second anniversary of the UN's decision to
partition Mandatory Palestine into two states - a date which at the time was
celebrated and commemorated by the Israeli side (a quite important Tel-Aviv
square is till named for November 29) but later it was forgotten in Israel and
the day became a focus point for those who advocate the two-state solution.
Several demonstrations and protest actions are scheduled for this day

JOINT DEMONSTRATIONS AT ISRAELI UNIVERSITIES

On Wednesday, Nov. 29th, Arab and Jewish students and faculty will hold
simultaneous demonstrations at several universities under the banner of:

STOP THE OCCUPATION - STOP THE KILLINGS - PEACE BETWEEN EQUALS

The coordinated campus demonstrations will protest against the occupation,
the killings and destruction, the closure and the hunger; and will call
for dismantling the settlements and for a just peace between equals.

Tel Aviv University - the demonstration will take place at 11:45-12:15 on
the lawn beside Gilman building and will then proceed to Entin Square
(main gate).

Haifa University - the demonstration will take place at 13:45-14:15 at the
barrier near Rabin building (at the roundabout).

Ben-Gurion University of the Negev - the demonstration will take place at
12:00-13:00 outside the university gate.

UNRWA and the WFP predict that by next month about 892,000 people in Gaza, and
554,000 in the West Bank will have exhausted their savings and need food aid.

Donations needed for food trucks

The popular comittee of Arabs in Haifa is organizing shipments
of food trucks to sieged Palestinian towns that need them. They
send rice, flour, sugar, oil, tea, and whatever people report
that they need the most. The shipment is done by volunteer truck
owners. The only cost is the food itself. One truckload of food
costs around 3,000 NIS.

To send your donation, write a check payable to:
hava'ad ha'amami shel arviyey Haifa

Add a note indicating that the donation is for food trucks.

Send to:

Popular Committee of the Haifa Arabs
c/o Haifa Social Development Assoc.
P.O.Box 4454
Haifa

A receipt will be sent by return mail within a few days.

Conscientious Objector Eyal Rozenberg is imprisoned for the second time.
Following is the latest message from his mother.

From: Rozenberg <roznbrg-AT-nonstop.net.il>
Send reply to: eyalroz-AT-mad.scientist.com

Hello to all of you,

I am sorry to announce you that Phase II started much earlier than I
could expect. Eyal went to the army unit on Thursday and today, in order
to check what they would be going to do with him. There, he received some
dry and incomplete info that he would be transferred to another unit, to a
"iehidat maavar" We didn't know what kind of transfer it would be, outside
the army or just to another unit. However, today he was judged again by
his "shlishut" officer and condemned to 14 days of prison. Immediately
after that he was taken to Zerifin in a kind of emprisonment unit. He is
likely to be put in Military Prison 4, later.

He had no equipment with him at all. I managed to ask from a friend of
mine who was working in the surroundings and had his car with him, to buy
Eyal some basic equipment and they accepted to let him give eyal this
small parcel. That is for the time being. I don't know for how long he
will stay there and whether he will be put in the prison for the rest of
the time.

What I do know, is that tomorrow November 27, Eyal will be 20. A
strange way to celebrate his birthday. When he was about three years and a
half, used Eyal to say: "I am going to the kinder-garten, then to school,
to the Army , to the University, to work and then I'll die." The present part
of one's life experience was still hidden to him at that time.

Sorry for getting into so many details and taking a bit of your time...

Good night,

Veronica (Eyal's mother for those who don't know that yet)

Yesh Gvul continues distributing to soldiers the brochures beginning:

Hey soldier, where are you headed ?

On your way to serve in the occupied territories ? Maybe to guard the
settlers of Psagot ? Or to reoccupy Joseph^Òs Tomb in Nablus ? Maybe to
prevent the Palestinian people^Òs declaration of independence, maybe to put
down the new intifada (or could it be - for all-out war) ?

You^Òll do your duty, of course, but certainly not willingly. If you^Òre a
regular service soldier, you will have realised by now that this will be
your main job till your demobilisation, in place of the "useful" or
"significant" service you were promised. If you^Òre a reservist, you must
be one of the last of the "righteous" still willing to suffer for the
reckless adventurism surrounding the policies of occupation and
colonisation pursued by our various governments.(...)

Gush Shalom's Settlement Boycott Committee sent letters to the 142 factories
and economic enterprises appearing in the "Judea and Samaria Yellow Pages". In
the letter, the directors were advised to relocate now their enterprises to
within Israel's borders. Some of them seem to have thought of it already: at
least fifty of the letters came back, stamped "departed" by the post office...

For your information, a piece of statistics which none of the Israeli media
published:

The Palestinian Agriculture Ministry has issued a special report on
the uprooting of trees by the Army and settlers during the current
conflict, estimating the number of trees at around 44,181. (In more
detail: 20,435 grapevines, 9,905 woodland trees, 6,621 olive trees,
2,555 citrus trees, 2,000 banana trees, 489 almond trees, 101 palm
trees and 75 trees of other types.)

(The settler rabbis seem to have forgotten that the Holy Scriptures contain a
specific prohibition against cutting down fruit trees as an act of war...)

"The Other Israel" nr 95/96 (double issue, 32 pages) is out. In this
newsletter the past months are described and analyzed. The "diary of terrible
days", reports about the weeks of "war euphoria" and the many small,
sometimes bigger protests and vigils which were going on on the streets of
Israel. It also records the painful process or reorientation; the effort to
maintain contact with Palestinian friends; the solidarity actions at various
points on the West Bank. There are reports and commentaries by Uri Avnery, Adam
Keller, Barabara Schmutzler, Lily Traubman, Iris Bar and many others.
