Justin, here is the information on the conference. I think that it might be
of interest to colleagues on the critical realism discussion list.

Work, Employment and Society Conference 2001

Dear colleagues,

Just to remind you that the deadline for the receipt of abstracts is April
20th. We've got some good speakers - Naomi Klein, Theo Nichols, Kate
Purcell, Richard Sennett - and we're also running a number of events and
exhibitions alongside the conference, including the "Terra" exhibition by
Sebastiao Salgado. Details can be found at the conference website
www.nottingham.ac.uk/wes2001 <http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/wes2001>

The conference will be held at the University of Nottingham on September 11
- 13, 2001 and will address the theme of "Winning and Losing in the New
Economy". Sub-themes will address issues relating to:

- Inequalities of wealth and power
- Emotional labour
- The historical meanings of work
- Working (up a) class identity
- Risk, flexibility, insecurity
- Stress and work intensification
- Re-regulating the labour market
- Slavery - old and new

Papers addressing other themes will also be welcome. If you would like to
present a paper, please send me a short abstract (300 words max) by April
20th.

Best wishes,

Jose
