Hi Phil, depends on what you mean by social capital, Ben Fine is highly
critical of th elastic nature of the concept and the manner in which it has
facilitated the colonisation of social theory by economics and has provided
a superficial veneer to aspects of economicas without altering its
fundamental deficiencies. In these terms it would be difficult to reconcile
with complex structured depth realist accounts. In so far as it is used by
Bourdieu however there may be more scope for broadly realist applications.
