Curiously enough there is an article in a recent New Scientist which 
relates the starting point of human influence on the planet's weather 
system as being approx 8000 years ago. Which the article suggests 
results from the first industrial revolution - the invention of 
neolithic farming, this does match rather well with the 10,000 year figure.
