First, I find it hard to believe that *Le livre a` venir* has not been translated into English -- I've searched probable titles (The Book to Come,' 'The Future Book,' etc) as well as by author and have found nothing! I'm teaching *The Space of Literature* and there are some sections from LV I would like to use as supplements. Does anyone know if it truly is untranslated? Second, yesterday, in discussing "The Essential Solitude" from EL with some bright, advanced undergraduates (a combination of English and philosophy majors) who were having considerable difficulty in fathoming the image-fascination relation (especially as this bears on solitude), I found myself resorting to the notion of fetish. This recourse seemed to work (well, sort of), but I found myself quite uneasy about making this parallel, nevertheless drawn toward it (worst of all, I was aware of these 'doublings'). I was wondering what thoughts others might have on this parallel. Reg Lilly Philosophy Skidmore College Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 rlilly-AT-skidmore.edu
