Date: Tue, 25 Jul 1995 12:28:04 -0600 Subject: MB: L'Arret de mort Regarding Death Sentence: there's a nice essay in Diacritics a few years ago (late 80's?) that deals with the filmic qualities of this novel, in comparison with _Hiroshima mon amour_ The author (I'll get the reference if y'all need it) deals with the "cut" between parts "1" and "2." She also explains some of the punning going on (la raie de mort=what we call the life line on the palm, etc.). The most useful article >from La Part du feu is entitled "Regards d'outre-tombe." This is actually about Michel Leiris' _L'Age d'homme_ but I had my students read Leiris first anyways. Students also need to understand the "Lazare, veni foras" notion, since it crops up ("Viens").
