Edward,

Are you familiar with Emmanuel Levinas? If so what do you make of his
views of ontology and ethics (i.e. that ethics, or duty to "the other"
preceeds existance)? When his veiws were first taught to me I recognized
a great truth (to say nothing of a brilliancy) in his analysis. According
to your view (in so far as I understand it) there is no room for "the
other" that is, there is no room for that which is completly and totally
outside yourself and has just as much existance. According to your view
there appears to be no such concept of ethics, or in any case ethical act
would make no sense. These are not critisims (yet) only I would like to
know if I am correct in thinking this.

Samuel
