I could agree , but I work both ways and the dichotomy is one I have
not yet solved: as a human being, my moods sway immensely: sometimes I
swoon over Blanchot and his heavy hyper-serious darkness - one thing
I find so refreshing in his work is the utter lack of ego
- yes, of course he's concerned with the experience of the creator and
uses his own experience as example, and thus gets exceedingly personal,
but I don't believe it's a matter of egocentricity/solipcism, instead a
means of illustration; he seems more concerned with the creator's experience
as a Universal, shall we say, not simply with his own. Then
... the other side of me as reader bouncing off the walls will shut a Blanchot
book in consternation at the prevalence of his negativity ... I then veer
full force towards the surrealists and their celebratory exploration of
the creative act (if you're at all interested, click on the attachment

seriousness I encounter in the 'lay' element of humanity - I want the voice
of the Academy, the intellectual stimulation I can (usually) only find
there:as an artist, I find myself often grouped among the amazingly illiterate
and culturally vacuous (except when it comes to trendiness: I went to college
