'madness' for 'folie') were appropriate choices - I think it should be noted that a given word has a lot of connotations/possibilities/nuances of MEANING (other than literal, etc) which, as English is your second language, you may not be aware of. 'Madness' does not necessarily infer 'insanity' to my mind; that is, the inference of 'madness' is much lighter and immediate ( a phase, a passing state of mind/mood, as opposed to a psychological state of being with immense ramifications) than 'insanity' -(though once upon a time I imagine it would have immediately called forth this reference ); folly is a bit closer actually (in English), except that the latter word is very dated and has a connotation of gayety (so to speak) presently - one which I doubt any would deem appropriate to blanchot - it is no longer used prevalently as it's 'old-fashioned.' Also: I'm afraid to tell you that reading is not a very prevalent habit (outside the academy) in America so I imagine the market' is much different - 'pretty' books have a lot more of a chance of selling here (recently, a certain book became a 'best-seller which sold an outrageous number of copies chiefly BECAUSE of the cover , i.e., few actually acquired it because of the conten or the writer.
