Brakhage (Stanley; cinematographer/theorist), somewhat like Blanchot (Maurice; writer/theorist), has also, for a great while, been interested in painting (filming) the pre-verbal/pre-visual "prior to any object" of your above post-scriptum: something along the (abstracted) lines of that vision we perceive before opening the eyelids (this according to Stanley B). No idea why Brakhage came to mind: perhaps merely (mirror-ly) the result of alliteration (a-literature).
