Please send me info re: -Bourdieu and the classical sociology (e.g. Marx,
Durkheim, Weber). I'm working on a paper where my task is to describe and
contrast the study methods of Durkheim (The Elementary Forms of the
Religious Life) and Weber (Economy and Society), and the conclusions they
lead to about the functions of religion in societies, ancient and modern, in
Europe and the Americas, but also in Asia and the Middle East. My prof.
says: The chief difference between them is one of method. The term "method"
is today used to deal with many aspects an analysis in the social sciences.
The sense in which it is used to distinguish between Durkheim and Weber has
to do with the differences between their analytical starting-points, a
difference that is sometimes described as "holism," as against,
"methodological individualism."

Naturally I'm looking for insights, comments and information and maybe
Bourdieu may be helpful. I'm a new subscriber and I'm not familiar with
knowing my way around in cyberspace...I need more assistance than
forgiveness right now.
