'Whatever the case, on this list we'll still have to explain things to each
other a lot.'

Gratefully received and immensely important. If this kind of 'easy'
international communication is to  mean anything it must not cover over
these very real and interesting national (and not onoy national) diffences
of interpretation. The mantra of alterity is not an easy 'liberal' matter.
It can be hard work and exhausting to really 'dialogue' with the Other.
