Well... Im not the one who begun the discussion about it, but I agree with that... Understand me first... I dont think philosophical discussion is a waste of time, but I do think that sociology has to worry about some things more REAL, than only philosophical discussion. Is important to know where does a theorical position comes from, or what implications can have certain philosophical question in sociology, but... well, we are sociologist... not philosophers... WE HAVE to study society... and, yes, you can tell me "well... if you want to study the society you have to got a strong theoric position" Well, I agree, but come on, we have to "go down" and get in to the sociological thing... You can discuss about the philosophical implications of HABITUS, AND FIELD, AND CAPITAL... but we have to look for them in the REALITY!!! I think sociology can have a main role in the actual situation of my country... and of the world... we can study the problems, analize the problems, and give some kind of solutions to them (maybe it sounds a little utopic, but... we have to dream no? ;>) And philosophical discussions can HELP... but I think that sociology is something you have to DO better than something to THINK... Well... sorry about my english... Hope you understand what Im triyng to say...
