I don't think the discussion is an either /or for philosophy or sociology,
but the ultimate purpose for me is social change and not enough sociologists
or philosophers connect with this as an ultimate aim.  Bourdieu as an
example was one of those reproductionists who I believe contributed to the
demise of the sociology of education because he emphasised the reproductive
nature of the education system. Where do we go from there??

Post-modernism, because of inaccessible and elitist language had potential
that has not translated into action which I grant was not its purpose.

There is important stuff out there, but we need good plain English
translations of academic texts so the very people being talked about can
access and engage in the debate.
