Michael Smylie:
Raisons d'Agir ("Reasons to Act") is a book series directed by Bourdieu
through Editions Liber [Raisons D' Agir Editions, 27 rue Jacob, 75006
Paris]. One of the two books by Bourdieu himself, "ON TELEVISION"
has been translated and published by The New Press,
[450 West 41st St., New York, NY 10036]. The New Press
will also be publishing the other Bourdieu title ("Contre Feux") as "ACTS
OF RESISTANCE: Against the New Myths of Our Time" in April, 1999.
Other books in the series (thus far untranslated, to my knowledge)
are Serge Halimi, "Les nouveaux chiens de garde", 1997 (on journalism and
journalists); Julien Duval, et. al. "Le decembre des intellectuels
francais" 1998 (on the role of intellectuals in the strikes of December
1995; ARESER (Assoc. de reflexion sur les enseignements superieurs et
la recherche) "Diagnostics et remeds urgents pour une universite en
peril", 1997; and Keith Dixon, "Les evangelistes du marche", 1998 (on
neo-liberal think tanks in the UK). Kim Voss and I are currently
writing a book on the ups and downs of the U.S. labor movement for
this series.

A reference to Bourdieu's "Reasons to Act" series was made in a recent
article by Daniel Singer in The Nation magazine. Any word on an English
translation? Thanks. mg:-)e
