Date: Fri, 23 Jul 1999 14:48:48 +0200 From: Philippe BONNET <bonp-AT-math-info.univ-paris5.fr> Subject: Bourdieu's statistical methods To those who are concerned by Bourdieu's statistical methods. A few weeks ago, some people asked about Bourdieu's statistical methods, and more specifically correspondence analysis. In addition to the references that were given already, let me suggest some first hand references in english: - Benzécri J.P. (1992) Correspondence Analysis Handbook, New York, Dekker. - Lebart L., Morineau A., Warwick K.M. (1984) Multivariate Descriptive Statistical Analysis: Correspondence Analysis and Related Techniques for Large Matrices, New York, Wiley. For those who are not afraid by reading french THE fundamental reference is: - Benzécri J.P. & Coll. (1973) L'analyse des données. tome 1, La Taxinomie; tome 2, L'analyse des correspondances, Paris, Dunod. Still in french, here is a book which starts with a discussion of the famous Bourdieu's "chinese portraits" in the Distinction: - Rouanet H., Le Roux B. (1993) Analyse des données multidimensionnelles, Paris, Dunod. And last but not least, the last application of correspondence analysis to construct social space can be found in the last issue of "Actes de la Recherche en Sciences Sociales" :n=B0 126/127, march 1999, A conservative revolution in publishing , (about the french publishers).
