Subject: Re: theatre

For all those interested in Bourdieu's theory and the theater, there
are some very interesting passages in a 1980 article by Bourdieu:
"The production of belief: contribution to an economy of symbolic
goods" (Media, Culture and Society, Vol. 2, 261-293, also in Actes
de la recherche... Vol. 13/1977, 3-43). Bourdieu analyzes the
intellectual field by drawing on the example of theatres in Paris,
which in his view are positioned in an opposition between bourgeios
and avant-garde. He is not doing any own empirical research, but is
citing some french studies on audiences.

P.S.: Ted, Kent, I don't see how giving such a reference would
hinder someone to read Distinction or Logic of Practice, in fact, the
questions arising in the process of reading the study probably will
force one to go deeper.
