Subject: PB on Weber and more . . . more help with quotations needed! Date: Wed, 31 Jan 2001 21:04:30 -0500 In Acts of Resistance (p. 43) , Bourdieu wrote: "Max Weber said that dominant groups always need a 'theodicy of their own privilege', or more precisely a sociodicy." I'd like to cite Weber's observation, but can't seem to find it. Any suggestions? And, on a similar note, on page 4 of Acts of Resistance PB says: "I was recently reading an article by a German author on ancient Egypt. He shows how, in a period of crisis of confidence in the state and in the public good, two tendencies emerged among the rulers, corruption, linked to the decline in respect for the public interest; and, among those they dominated, personal religiosity, associated with despair concerning temporal remedies." I'd REALLY love to know the German author and the citation for this. Any help from the listmembers would be greatly appreciated. solidarity Tom Conry ********************************************************************** Contributions: bourdieu-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu Commands: majordomo-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu Requests: bourdieu-approval-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu
