Dear Christopher,
Actually, Pierre Bourdieu has already retired from the Coll=E8ge de France on
28 march of this year with an official farewell lecture. A remarkeble one,
having himself as subject, an illustration of self-reflexivity. (See Le
Monde of  30 march 2001). He won't be silent though, being a honoray
professor. The regular chair of sociology, however, disappears with the
chair-holder.
