Subject: Re: honour Date: Tue, 15 May 2001 05:21:58 -0500 i wasn't following the conversation--mark (i'm not seriously interested in philosophy as philosophy), so i wasn't witness to any abuse. if abuse occurs on this list (and i think i have read a couple of high-handed remarks), its merely a point of irony: an academic attempting to gain distinction (however much the move is disguised as intellectual rigor) on the basis of his or her scholastic/cultural capital. The move of demanding the same of others is really a feint. irvin peckham Sonja <sonjasalminen-AT-mail1.stofanet.dk>-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu on 05/15/2001 02:18:39 AM Please respond to bourdieu-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu Sent by: owner-bourdieu-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu To: bourdieu-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu cc: (bcc: Irvin Peckham/ipeckh1/LSU) Subject: honour In my humble opinion is true wisdom the knowledge that one's knowledge consists of more questions than answers, so don't you stop here! Continue your search for answers - don't let anybody stop you! In some sense I wish I had not asked? Sorry for being an ignorant oaf who can't even spell Liebniz right! What I asked was a genuine question which of course anyone on this list can abuse as a question, but what exactly is the point? Since I clearly show that I am not an expert, making me look foolish does not seem to me to show any great talent. If my question is so silly, please feel free to point out why. However I have been doing some reading (starting from a point of almost total ignorance) and wanted to try to get some suggestions for further reading. I thought that not an unreasonable request It wouldbe nice to get some replies I can follow up but if abuse is all there is on offer it seems a waste of time so please don't send it. mark kirby ********************************************************************** Contributions: bourdieu-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu Commands: majordomo-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu Requests: bourdieu-approval-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu
