i find using personal characteristics to dismiss his work is, well, not a really scientific way of dealing with the info you have. now if you could find the time to put all that in a thourough analysis of his relation to boxing/colored people let us know.

i suppose there are many people aroung here who 'ended up' being academics/politicians/activists because they were trying to resolve their own contradictions. does this 'personal' process make their work less relevant ? definitely no. actually, pretty much the opposite. esp if they eventually resolved them. wacquant's work on boxing as a freudian attempt at getting rid of his blondish confederate paternalistic aesthetic ways ? do you have anything against that ?
