Hi Christine, I think that it occures in one of the essays in "Sociology in Question". > I know Bourdieu's writings but I'm trying to find references of > researchers who further developed this concept or applied it. > I found the concept quite useful when I applied it in my study of bilingual individuals as diffusion agents between Finland and Sweden. I developed it in two directions. First as the generally linguistic market, in which it is important to speak in a accepted and valued manner regarding vocabulary, grammar, rethoric strategies etc. in order to have cultural capital and for your words to count. Second, as the market of the two relevant languages, Swedish and Finnish, in the case of bilingual persons and diffusion between the countries. This approach helped me understand my empirical findings where bilingualism is needed in some groups but not in others and how Finnish immigrants in Sweden are marginalized in double terms from the diffusion process regardless of the fact that they have all the characteristics of "Marginal men", which according to the diffusion theory developed by the Chicago School and Symbolic Interactionism is important for innovativity. (My study is published by the Swedish School of Social Science with the title: "...men ändå är Sverige där". It is written in Swedish.)
