Date: Tue, 17 Jul 2001 10:05:45 +0200 Subject: Re: Wacquant on boxing How can any person who claims to be a social scientist dare to condemn someone by the topic they are writing on without ever even looking at their work (or being able to spell their name correctly)? It is important to fight fascism and to be aware of subtle tendencies towards fascism. Yet especially the latter are not found in a headline or a "topic" but - as students of Bourdieu should know - in a specific perspective of the world. Anyone who reads Wacquant will be ashamed of this accusation. On the other hand condemning people without knowing anything about their work certainly does not show fascism, but an understanding of scientific and democratic dialogue that I am very sceptical of.
