Subject: Re: Mr. Dumain

First, let me say that I discovered the lists on this University of Virginia
server only a month or so ago. The first one I subscribed to was the
frankfurt-school list. To make a long story short, the day and a half or so
I remained on that list was a most unpleasant experience because of Mr.
Dumain, his "4-letter words," the general rancor he created among other
subscribers to the list, and a list owner somewhere in Finland who happened
to support Mr. Dumain. I am happy to see that thus far, nobody has defended
his rudeness and crudeness here, nor let him get the upper hand, as he
managed to do on the other list I mentioned.

One last remark. His postings a month ago all contained URLs to his own
website, which is about Mr. Dumain's "self education project" (or some words
to that effect). It lists dozens of 1-page essays of his. In reading these,
I somehow got the impression that they were written by someone who had read
the liner jacket of every philosophy and sociology book in Border's
Bookstore. Also, the following thought occurred to me:

"He who has a self-righteous uncivilized boor for a teacher will learn
to be a
      self-righteous uncivilized boor."
