Subject: Bourideu and cultural production

hi all ---

i just joined this list so please forgive any
transgressions of pre-established normative practices
i am unaware of.

i am about to begin my research on Hindi film
production in bombay and am aiming to
implement/critique bourdieu's notions of fields and
cultural production. however, apparently, according to
one of my advisors, i am misunderstanding the
'bourdieuvian project'. he claimed that bourdieu's
work on the media (i am an 'anthropology of the media'
guy)is about democratizing media as a practice. or so
that is what i thought i heard.

anyway, i am interested in the relationship between
production practices and textual form in the media. if
i am not the only one, i am happy to pour forth a
bundle of ideas, some of which are clear, some more
muddled. reply either to me or the whole list, as you
see fit.

peace,
