Date: Wed, 14 Nov 2001 11:10:51 -0800 (PST) Subject: Bourideu and cultural production hi all --- i just joined this list so please forgive any transgressions of pre-established normative practices i am unaware of. i am about to begin my research on Hindi film production in bombay and am aiming to implement/critique bourdieu's notions of fields and cultural production. however, apparently, according to one of my advisors, i am misunderstanding the 'bourdieuvian project'. he claimed that bourdieu's work on the media (i am an 'anthropology of the media' guy)is about democratizing media as a practice. or so that is what i thought i heard. anyway, i am interested in the relationship between production practices and textual form in the media. if i am not the only one, i am happy to pour forth a bundle of ideas, some of which are clear, some more muddled. reply either to me or the whole list, as you see fit. peace, jordyn ph.d. candidate department of anthropology u.c. berkeley __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
