Don't bet on it, Hiro.  Parents were asking me that when I began teaching in 1948 and never once stopped.  Sociology has never enjoyed much prestige in Britain or the United States, particularly at Oxbridge or among the Ivies.  A long and fascinating story actually, something a sociologist like yourself might want to investigate.
