Hi, Everyone: I've been reading Bourdieu for some years, though I could not say I am a specialist or anything because I've just used some of his categories for some research I'm doing on poverty and education. I wrote an article (in Spanish) as a kind of introduction to him, which appeared in a local publication on social issues. I anybody is interested I can send it by e-mail . I would love to join a study group of the kind you are discussing because here(Rosario, Argentina, my city) I haven't found anyone who wants to discuss about him/his work/his m ilitancy etc.
Hope to hear from you all soon,
  XXX

I'm happy to host a beginners list. I have access to list facilities here at the university. We could decide a focus for the group based on group interests. If people want to join, please let us know.

        Pam/All,

I will join the online group! I am in Australia so all this talk about groups is making me jealous. Hmmm, but where to host? I am also very interested in learning more about Bourdieu for similar reasons... but isn't this list meant to be something like that? Or is it merely a technology for reinscribing what is fit for a 'proper' academic list? ;)

A space for newbies would be great as we are beginning to walk the Bourdieu walk, so when we fall over and make asses of ourselves we don't seem like a little car load of clowns. (Honk honk!)

Anyone else keen for a beginners list? We could have group readings of particular texts, share ideas about work, hmmm, get to know other people in related areas, etc. Anyone have access to list facilities at their universities? It would be possible to start one on Yahoo groups or similar (if you can put up with all the ads).

        More ideas?

        Cheerio,

        Glen.

I am just beginning to study Bourdieu's work for my thesis project at U.C. Berkeley. I wondered if any of you who live in the California bay area and would be interested in joining me for a Bourdieu summer study group. I am also interested to join an on-line study group with people who are beginning to explore Bourdieu's work.
