Hello,

I wouldn't miss "State Nobility" ("La noblesse d'État"). Its main focus
is not only family socialization and children education, but how the
upper French classes are "manufactured" (and thus reproduced) in certain
"good" schools and colleges. It also exposes (brilliantly, I'd say) how
the continuity / discontinuity between family and school education are
perfectly managed by these schools.

I would advise you to read the work of a French sociologist, Bernard
Lahire ("Tableaux de familles", I don't think it has been translated),
who analyses the "family configurations" (a quick translation of
"configuration familiales") that lead to high achievement in the case of
low class children from the cities of the south of France (and thus
discusses -enhances- PB's concept of "reproduction")

I hope they will help you.

Asunto: [BOU:] Reading question

Hello,

I'm writing my dissertation and need a reading recommendation. I'm
investigating the nature of family influence on first-generation college
students,
and would appreciate advice on what would be the best thing(s) for me
to read
in order to learn more about Bourdieu's ideas on family as the primary
agents
of socialization.

Thanks for your help!
