a facile group of ex-maoists who promoted themselves into media stars in the
70's..  the most "representative" of the lot being Bernard-Henri Levy
(<Barbarism With a Human Face>) and Andre Glucksman (<The Master
Thinkers>)...  for a couple of good secondary discussions see two articles by
Peter Dews:  "The 'New Philosophers' and the End of Leftism" in <Radical
Philosophy Reader> ed. Edgley & Osborne, and "The Nouvelle Philosophie and
Foucault" in <Economy and Society> vol 8 #2.  Don't waste much time on them,
they're nothing more than a curiosity in recent French intellectual history,
of more sociological than intellectual interest...
