A House panel approved spending plan that would kill the NEA&H
in 1998. Both agencies (NEA &NEH) will receive -AT- $ 95 million
dollars -- same amount NEA got last year, $10 million less than NEH
got. Clinton requested 136 mil per agency.
House is considering bill that would increase spending for NSF (Nat'l
Science foundation) -AT- 5% in 1997 to -AT- 3.3 billion dollars. However,
in their report, the house recommended that the NSF eliminate its
dept for the study of behavioral and social sciences. Clinton
requested 3.3 mil.
Sokal's little prank is but a tiny skirmish in the real "Science
Wars."
