The perpetually under-checked source for this "peculiar vitalism" of
D&G is, of course, Bergson.  In all seriousness, the best thing I ever
did to figure out where all of this was coming from was to read matter
and memory.  Chapter one explains precisely the sense in which perception,
and by extension, thinking, are in the things themselves.  I'm too pressed
for time to go into a long excursis on how this works, but it's well worht
reading, if only because it really is a trip, and well written to boot.
