when whomever it was (teillard?) pulled the the Piltdown Forgery we were all
meant to be angry at the forgers....

but now when sokal pulls the social text forgery we are meant to be angry at
those who were fooled by the forgery.....

why this difference in the moral we are expected to draw?

i feel like explaining this by appleal tothe fact that paleontologists
had more cultural clout than a prankster, but that even a prankster has
more clout than social text
