Dear M.,

You take unleesh to task here -

I'm suggesting depassing tropes which fit into socioepistemological
> configurations which are ultimately repressive.

Why?

This sentence neatly summarizes the deluded irrelevance of

        a.) this discussion
        b.) this list
        c.) "criticism"
        d.) the academic left
        e.) all of the above

Because it is irrelevant? Like all these things. Why stop there, why
stop with the "academic left"? Presumably you are a man of action? Am I
right?

Christ, what a joke. Do you even know what "trope" means?
Could you show me how to "depass" one?

Golly. Sounds like you have a secret definition of "trope" which you
probably learned in Poetry Criticism at some university. Maybe you will
share it with us so that our thoughts won't be so muddy? So we will get
things straight. Yes. Let's put a respectable boundary on the sign!

It's a trope: "I'm suggesting depassing tropes which fit into
socioepistemological configurations which are ultimately repressive."
This is a trope. By which we can see that not all tropes are evil. Its a
well worn ploy, a strategy of eluding pursuit, or finding a weak spot,
or simply leaping away. As old as the Devonian, since fish grew fins,
and then wings or legs, brains that could leap and run and fly.

And what does it mean? This mystifying trope? What unleesh means, I
think, is simply - I think - to stop using "tropes" that keep you
trapped, pinned down, incapacitated. What does it to you - such a trope
- is create a "non-ultimate variety". It goes like this, has the
structure of holding you in its clawjaws, of pinning you like the bugman
you are .... now, given the way the world really is, given the rules of
the game you must play, you have one of two choices, or even better, no
choice at all!

Tropes - (ideas, metaphors, pictures, visions, maps, systems of
thought)["trope" = figure of speech] such as "Christ what a joke" *do
you even know what a trope is?* Now, that would be a trope. Either we
answer "no" and look ignorant, beg for enlightenment, or "yes" and get
it wrong (or at best look smug, closed minded). We are pinned, helpless,
at the mercy of your non-ulitimate veriety, in the jaws of your
impossibility.

Actually *trope* - it's a surprisingly interesting and unstable word
which can suggest anything from a passage of music to [by way of a
certain clang/glas] a meal, or a holiday in Tahiti. Just don't go there,
don't eat it, don't play that game, don't listen, pass on it, pass on by
- hey look! More tropes! And the multivalency - the instability - it's
nondefined, nondefining power of resegmentation, of redesigning the
codegame - that makes tropes good strategies as well as mystifying
traps.

And what will we pass by? Tropes which help us to know that what we are
about to do is impossible.

Or even just "depass"
some traffic?

Grow wings.

Maybe along the way you can explain that
marvelous distinction between "ultimately repressive
configurations" and the non-ultimate variety. Pray, tell.

I won't speak for unleash, but I'll tell you what I think. Ever play
Chess? Knight forks and pinning against the King are ultimately
repressive. Either whatever you do is bad or you can't do anything. No
possibilities. Now, in thought, it is rare to find any thought that is
truly worthy of this label. But thinking through spheres, like Kant, has
a long history of behaving this way, of making flows, even
communication, impossible. Or like Lacan says, Love between the sexes is
impossible. Like you say, "explain[ing] that
marvelous distinction between "ultimately repressive configurations" and
the non-ultimate variety" is - presumably - impossible.

Yes. You are right impossible because irrelevant (or is it the other way
around? I forget...). Lets get back to production, shall we? Enough of
this bullshit (another trope) Let's have some real contestation! ()what
a tope!)
