"In the language of E. Husserl's phenomenology of transcendental
consciousness: the reduction of the world plenum to particular own world
is indeed always reduction to the "life world" proper to me: for
"consciousness determines its actions in accord with its quality. Its
singularities shape what is accessible to it." (W. Szilasi, 1959, p. 90)
This holds in the same way for the properties of receptivity as well.
The soul is no Lockean tabula rasa, on which anything can be written,
but rather the tablet of Leibnitz which registers only what its own
constitution admits. "The tablet carries out an active selection. Only
those signs are accepted by it which fit its receptive
predisposition."(Szilasi)" (Hubertus Tellenbach, Melancholy, Duquesne
University Press, Pittsburgh, 1980)........"In cool empyrean, beyond
haze and piled clouds/ At Triple Five, the jade toad in Autumn!/ The
starry chronograms are correct in their serried fields/ Set in the void,
the ghosts and trolls are gloomy/ Wellhead limpid-cold protopsyche
crystalline/ Dew dripping-chilly light gloating/ Under the snapping
cinnamons/ I chant as I watch; I could not bear to rest." (Fan Kan,
"Chung Ch'iu yueh", (T'ang-tsu Chiu, han 10, ts'e 3, ch. 2, 9b), in
"Pacing the Void", Schafer)
