My understanding is that ideology is related to Marx's ntion of true versus
false consciousness. False consciousness is a condition whereby the (working)
class holds beliefs which go against their interests ; true (or more
accurately revolutionary) consciousness is aligned with their interests.
Ideology are the beliefs that try to align a class against its interests, in
the service of the ruling class's structuration of society.

But D&G want to move away from this notion of "interest" as some sort of
objective, determined-from-outside thing, and inaugurate the concept of desire
instead ... once we have a polyfluxual, polyvalent desire instead of a bipolar
interest (something's either in your interest or not), then the concept of
ideology becomes more problematic ...
