Phil put forward the notion of a non-transcendental alien something which
is the ultimate filed (?) for a work of art.  I find this mystical and
dogmatic - a methodlogical objection.  On the other hand i have no
objection to this as an approach to the basis for criticism: perhaps i
could re-word my bottom line (""The bottom line is the aesthetic sense.  It
s not
that there is no bottom line.") remark to encompass his whatever.  But you
cannot both have anything goes and an ultimate basis for judgement. 
Whether this is part of sense or not seems to revert to an obsolete
Locke-ianism.
