Phil put forward the notion of a non-transcendental alien something which is the ultimate filed (?) for a work of art. I find this mystical and dogmatic - a methodlogical objection. On the other hand i have no objection to this as an approach to the basis for criticism: perhaps i could re-word my bottom line (""The bottom line is the aesthetic sense. It s not that there is no bottom line.") remark to encompass his whatever. But you cannot both have anything goes and an ultimate basis for judgement. Whether this is part of sense or not seems to revert to an obsolete Locke-ianism. Anthony.
