An extended analogy, that's all.  An 
exercise for the reader.  Imagine, if
you need a concrete image, The Thirst
for Annihilation ending up circulating
at the national convention of Southern
Baptist churches.  Do you feel the love?
Use empathy as needed.

Who knows?  I didn't mention it.

(Though I imagine a connection could 
be drawn, say, from Crowley to the
Hermetic Order and other Victorian/
Edwardian occultisms, through to the
spiritualism which found child-doctored 
photographs of fairies plausible.  
But then again, none of the above are
even half-serious mystics, whatever
that means.)
