This is a somewhat interesting question. What are the different styles /
aesthetics / rigours of scholarship? Is scholarship monolithic, or are there
different schools, a different monasticism for each cult that sprouts up? 

I don't really have a problem with scholastic delirium, so long as it knows it
is one madness amongst many, and doesn't project its rigour, its particular
flavor of OCD onto others ...

these could be interesting questions to ask ....
