I'm not sure I fully understand your question, but I think you're
asking whether or not the empty square is an entity that belongs only
to the ontology of psychoanalysis.  Am I right?  If that's the
question, then no.  Deleuze shows how the empty square functions in a
number of different contexts.  In Gombrowicz' novel _Cosmos_ the empty
square is the hung animals, in _Alice in Wonderland_ it's the empty
space on the book shelves that continuously displaces itself, in
Proust's _Rememberance of Things Past_ it's the signifier "Combray"
which is absent in the present, but full in the past.  What's
essential to the empty square is the idea that it allows two or more
series to reverberate like a refrain or a ritornello.  It makes music ;)
