maybe academia is for retards of the imagination, i don't know ... i wouldn't
claim that, but hell, i think it would be a lot healthier if the university
was seen as a rehab center rather than some hegemonic source of valid
knowledge.

I think it's wonderful that you were exposed to new thought in the university!
I wouldn't resent anyone new thought! I am not "anti-academic", but I am
"anti-academic supremacy", and there's far too much of that. In fact,
academic-supremacy is a large reason that people like this young woman reject
the academy. It's why a lot of people turn "anti-intellectual" ... and
unfortunately, after many sour encounters with this supremacy, many abandon
their search for knowledge and communication altogether ... but fortunately
some do remain, like this young woman, who communicated with those she felt
open to her experience. I think it's a wonderful project for those who have
academic tools or those who are academic but not part of academic supremacy to
link up with others who are exploring nonacademic communications and
experiences ... Most of the intelligence out there is not academic, tho many
of us have had to turn to the academy at least as a toolbox to raid. Academia
all too often is like the Church of Learning and its members Priests. Sure,
I've met many priests who have created liberation theologies. And I think I've
even met some "secret agents" from the outside who have managed to place
themselves there. But I've also met a lot of arrogance towards those who
haven't been ordained in the church.
