Whereas Derrida would say "to not philosophize is to philosophize still," Levinas would state otherwise: "to not philosophize is not to philosophize still." Sounds quite silly in some ways, but yet it points to an important distinction between being and otherwise than being. Especially, according to Levinas, when the latter is in fact the foundation for the former. That is, non-philosophy is the condition of philosophy. Any thoughts? Robert
