Subject: Re: Non-Philosophy

I was wondering if anyone has read some of Emmanuel Levinas' work within
the context of "non-philosophy". Whereas Derrida would say "to not
philosophize is to philosophize still," Levinas would state otherwise: "to
not philosophize is not to philosophize still." Sounds quite silly in
some ways, but yet it points to an important distinction between being and
otherwise than being. Especially, according to Levinas, when the latter
is in fact the foundation for the former. That is, non-philosophy is the
condition of philosophy.

Any thoughts?

Robert
