For a while the list had been swamped with lots junk (urgent requests 
for assistance and the like).  I was wondering if everyone got chased 
off.

It is always a problem with successful lists and open 
communication...the more activity on the list...the more people get 
annoyed and irritated.  And then, the list starts to degenerate into a 
flurry of complaints about spam.  Then complaints about complaints.  And 
then it is followed by silence.  The last few people on the list, people 
like me, who delete almost everything before reading it.  There is some 
kind of grand ecology at work...  

I don't know if this list got bogged down by complaints...but I do know 
that the archives reveal a whole lotta crap.

Maybe it is time to start talking about the active list and the 
accident.  Or, if you have been silent for the past year like I have, 
maybe we could talk about silence.
