i cannot help point out, after a quick start at reading the above article,
that it is quite amusing that the author criticizes lacan et al as follows:
"Lofty profundity is such a useful material from which to build
reputations, careers, and graduate schools" and goes on in the same
paragraph with the following very profoud sounding sentence:
"Postmodernism may or may not be dernier cri, but it is surely not the
last word in meretricious desipience".

er, umm, what? ;-)

sorry for the silly segue; i shall not return until i have more profound
things to say on the matter!
