G'day all I think it's very unfortunate that the list has pretty much deteriorated into a content-free ad hominem slanging match: I don't think we're getting far with that, or learning much. As posted earlier, I disagree with Bill's position in a couple of particulars, but it's possible to do that without resorting to attack. This is the other side of 'bending over backward to be fair to everyone'. I'm not trying to limit the *topics* that are discussed on this list - its eclecticism is one of its charms, IMO. But we've always tried to make the list a site for civil, but passionate, discussion, and it's always a pity when we fall short of that standard. It's possible to agree or disagree passionately with a point of view without attacking the holder of that opinion.
