Sokal and Bricmont provided a measured response to critics which clearly defined the nature and intent of the hoax . Their criticism was directed against carefully selected targets, not including Derrida for example who for all his incoherence did not indulge in the particular form of pseudoscientific fraud that Sokal unmasked.
