Adrian asks what the media share; I would say entertainment and corporate
production - and literally, both of these which are of course intertwined,
are driving everything. Beyond that, they both operate (imho between the 
television set and the big /scratch that - small/ screen, differently) 
through diegesis and character identifications; simply, they involve the 
audience member in the seeming fullness of a represented world. Obviously 
"fullness" is questionable, but as virtual reality and other experiments 
cease to _be_ exerpiments, fullness might take on different and even more 
troubling connotations... of which some are visible already on the Inter- 
net - ask any MUDder or MOOer..
