I just heard the following little anecdote from a shadow-puppet guy I've
been working with.  He said that he was once doing a show with an Indonesian
shadow-puppetry group that was touring the US.  Apparently the audience
got very upset with the violence in the show.  Now these were teenagers and
adults who watch violent Hollywood films all the time, but they apparently
couldn't cope with battles among a bunch of stylized projected shadows, 
in the context of the ethical complexities of the Mahabaratha (where
_everybody_ gets killed).
