Subject: help with permissions

I am completing a manuscript and need to seek permission for some
photos/stills that I would like to use in the published book. I have never
had to do this before and I'm afraid that I am not quite sure how to
proceed. Do I write to the studio that made the film? Is there an easy
way to find to whom to address such a request? Should I assume that they
will have a set of stills from which they are willing to let me choose? If
I should happen to have slides made from a video version, can I request
permission to use one of those? I am truly sorry to sound so helpless, but
I will be very grateful for any help that anyone can give me. You may
respond privately at cdurham-AT-acs.wooster.edu. Thanks much.
