Read Leo Bersani's article "Is the Rectum a Grave"?  Here, in the context
of discussing AIDS aand the social response in the mid-80's, he discusses
the risks of reading the body in the way you propose reading it.  The
article was in October in 1987, a special AIDS issue edited by Douglas
Crimp.
